On-Site Medical Detox

Substances remain in your system well beyond next morning’s hangover. It is only after those substances leave your body that we can begin to bring light to your clouded thoughts, emotions, spirit and physical well-being.

Aurora Recovery Centre is one of the only private treatment centres in Canada with a 24/7 medical detox unit. Medical detox is the safest and most comfortable way to handle going through withdrawal from any active substance addiction. It is also an essential first step in your journey to recovery.

As part of your treatment program at Aurora, you’ll be required to successfully undergo this stage before moving on to the Inpatient Treatment portion of your recovery plan. Without substances in your body, you’ll experience more physical, mental and spiritual clarity and readiness for the next steps of treatment.

Medically Assisted Withdrawal

Substance withdrawal is often accompanied by challenging physical and emotional symptoms, and can potentially be life-threatening:

  • Seizures
  • Hallucinations
  • Anxiety/paranoia
  • Nausea
  • Tremors

Medications, along with 24/7 monitoring, may be used when appropriate to safely assist you in your detoxification. Our detox unit manager and nurses follow detailed policies, procedures and protocols to safely help you through your withdrawal experience.

Our staff is trained in different protocols for detoxification from every form of addiction, with added complexity for those using combinations of alcohol and multiple drugs.
