John Jackson – Detox/Transitional Client Care Supervisor
John is a registered psychiatric nurse with 3 years’ experience in the addictions field including counselling, nursing in an opiate replacement program and providing leadership as a Team Leader. His interests include suicide assessment, psychiatric assessment, and motivational interviewing.
Community development is important to John. He has served as the chairperson of a suicide prevention network, as well as a board member for a group which provides residential services for individuals with intellectual disabilities. He is passionate about the profession of psychiatric nursing. He has provided educational sessions to psychiatric nursing students, and participates in creating the licensing exam for future registered psychiatric nurses across Canada.
In partnership with a university professor, John has conducted research and published a peer reviewed paper. John is nearing completion of a master’s degree in psychiatric nursing with a specialization in health leadership and administration. He has an interest in how the quality of services can be maintained in the face of organizational restructuring in healthcare.
John chooses to work in the addictions field because he believes in creating a supportive, client-centred environment where clients can feel safe and confident to pursue the miracle of their own recovery.
